TAG Heuer are renowned watchmakers, known for their expertly crafted timepieces, and they’re also well-recognised for their ties to the motorsports industry. In fact, TAG Heuer highlighted on their website that they “introduced the Mikrograph – a mechanical chronograph five times more accurate than any other – and became the official timekeeper for the most famous sports competitions. With the arrival of motorsports, TAG Heuer became the first watchmaking brand to sponsor the Formula 1 World Championship since its creation.” It came as no surprise when they announced their collaboration with Porsche, one of the world’s biggest luxury sports car brands. The two worked together to create a sleek watch which mirrors the design of the Porsche Carrera and incorporates TAG Heuer’s exceptional mechanical expertise.
The collaboration
The two companies have created a watch which is sporty in design yet features the smooth appearance and red highlights one might associate with Porsche. With features such as custom colours and automotive inspired finishes, and having been built with high quality materials, everything about this watch truly captures the luxurious lifestyle that Porsche and TAG Heuer embody. Frédéric Arnault, TAG Heuer’s CEO, speaking about their collaboration said: “We have a common history and share values, of course, but more importantly we share an attitude. With this alliance TAG Heuer and Porsche come together officially after decades of close encounters.” In addition to this, both companies have said that this collaborative piece is not just a one off, meaning that we should expect to see more innovative, luxury watches in the future. What are the features?
The watch itself features refined indexes and hands, plated in black gold with white Super-LumiNova®, the purpose of which is to better catch the light, making it easy to read at all times. According to Tag Heuer, the watch has “Parallel and elongated lugs that feel solid and sturdy on the wrist, new pushers, and metal crown for an elegant yet sporty feel: a genuinely timeless yet bold chronograph.” Both TAG Heuer and Porsche engineer their mechanisms to perfection using cutting edge technology and their passion for motorsports. This combined with their attention to detail, precision and dedication to creating luxury, high quality products is truly reflected in the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph Special Edition. The watch’s performance is truly remarkable; built to last, it features the “in-house automatic chronograph Heuer 02 manufacture with its 80-hour power reserve”, ensuring high performance and timeless luxury. The black calf leather strap cleverly emulates the interior of a Porsche car.
