Born into a family of watchmakers, renowned Horologist Simon Michlmayr has been in the watch and clock business for over 40 years. His team of 10 qualified and experienced watchmakers boasts over 100 years of specialist horological experience – Meet the Team.
1956 – The Big Move:
Frederich (Fritz) Michlmayr moved from Austria to England as a newly qualified watchmaker to learn English and worked as an apprentrice at Baines, Norwich.
1961 – Going Solo:
Fritz started his own watch repair business called the Swiss Watch Shop.
1975 – Service Specialists:
In the mid ‘70s, Fritz decided to specialise in watch servicing and set up a watch service centre in Park Lane and subsequently Unthank Road, Norwich.
1986 – Stepping Up:
Simon took over the Michlmayr reins and moved the business to Lawson Road, Norwich. He expanded the horological remit to include repairs and refurbishments for both watches and clocks.
1988 – Rolex Accreditation:
Simon became Rolex accredited, one of only 12 people in the UK (outside Rolex) to hold the honour.
2000 – Big Clock Maintenance:
Michlmayr expanded, moved to Ladysmith road and launched their Tower Clocks Maintenance service.
2009 – Meridian Watches:
Following an expedition to the Artic, Simon decided to design a watch that was tough enough to function in Arctic conditions. You can read more about Simon’s adventures and Meridian in our interview – 60 Minutes with Simon Michlmayr.
2012 – Expansion:
Having outgrown Lawson Road, Michmayr moved to larger premises in Fletcher Way, Norwich. Now the largest clock and watch servicing, repair and restoration business in the East of England. Simon and his team work on horological projects across the UK.
2013 – Omega Accreditation:
Michlmayr became an Omega Certified Service Centre.
2014 – Garrick Watches:
Simon teamed up with David Brailsford to launch a new watch brand. Handmade fine timepieces with a distinctly British character, only 50 Garrick Watches are produced per year. Find our more in our blog – Garrick – A Gentleman’s Watch.
2023 – TAG Heuer Accreditation:
Michlmayr became an authorised repairer of TAG Heuer products.
